When the staff of the Supreme Court was reorganized (see 21144/87) two deputy Registrars were appointed, one (W. Barff) to be styled Deputy Registrar & Accountant and the other (M. Sangster) to be styled Deputy Registrar and Appraiser.
I understand M. Barff's complaint to mean this: that when in 1888 he was granted vacation leave, M. Sangster declined to perform temporarily the double duty, but it looks as if the two may have had good reasons.
